2010 Rules
Rules for all classes:
Safety: Functioning seatbelts, Helmets, Eye Protection, Long pants, sturdy shoes or boots are mandatory. Racing Suit recommended. All air bags and charges must be completely removed before arriving to track for competition.
Preparation: All glass, headlights, tail lights, chrome, fiberglass header panels, carpeting, antennas, hubcaps, wheel weights, and garbage must be removed before coming to the track for competition. Trailer Hitches must be completely removed.
Gas Tanks: Factory gas tank MUST be removed. In place you must use a 6 gallon max steel tank to be mounted on floor directly behind driver. Must have clamped fittings into tank. Plastic tanks only if enclosed in steel and must pass inspection. Only approved fuel line may be used. Pump gas only. Tanks must be bolted, chained, or 2 ratchet straps to floor and be very secure to pass inspection. NO FACTORY GAS TANKS ALLOWED…
Batteries: Only 1 or 2 automotive type batteries or 1 larger style battery of choice is permitted. Batteries must be mounted to floor on front passenger side of vehicle. Must be covered and secured firmly to pass inspection.
Windshields: Must be removed before arrival for competition. In place: 2 chains, or straps mounted from firewall to roof vertically for driver safety. Must use bolts or welding to secure.
Doors: Maximum one spot per door seam (vertical and/or horizontal) using the following methods: wire, cable, chain,
or 6"x3"x3/8" plate welded per door. Drivers door may be welded all the way around. No chain, wire or welding on inside of doors. If going around frame can go though door and floor ONLY. Wire, chain and cable 36” maximum.
Hoods: Must have a minimum of 12" hole in hood in case of fire. To hold hood down: Minimum of 2 (36" maximum) chains, wires, or threaded rod (maximum 1" diameter). Threaded rod may run through frame at core support bolts or be welded a-frame forward vertically to frame no more than 6" total. Maximum of 4 chains, wires, or threaded rods may be used. Only 2 threaded rods can go to frame. Should not extend out of hood more than 6". Hood plates used with rods should not exceed 6"x6"x3/8" in size. You may use up to (10) 3/8" max. bolts to secure hood webbing when cutting out hood. If hood does not cover fan, fan must be removed.
Trunks: Maximum 4 of the following items may be used to secure trunk lid: wire, cable, chain, threaded rod or 6”x3”x 3/8” welded plate. ONLY 2 items may connect to frame. Rods may go through mount or be welded vertically to frame with no more than 6" of weld. Top plates for rods cannot exceed 6"x6"x3/8" in size. Do not exceed 4" round or square for plates inside trunk to secure if bolting in rods. You may tuck up to half your trunk lids but do not wedge your trunks flat for competition. There must be a way for us to see inside trunk for inspection.
Tailgates: MUST be chained, wired, or welded. Chains or wire may not exceed 36” (Two items per vertical seam). If welding tailgate- Plates not to exceed 6”x3”x3/8”. No threaded rods allowed in tailgate. You may go through tailgate with bumper chains 2 spots only.
Radiators: Factory stock style in original position containing water only. No auxiliary coolers allowed. Steel mesh radiator protectors are allowed, but do not reinforce the core support with guard.
Fenders: Fenders may be trimmed. Each fender may up to 5 bolts per fender no larger than 3/8" in size, with washers also no larger than 1" in diameter. Excess bolt material must be trimmed.
Interior Mounted Safety Bars: You may have a dash bar, seat bar, and a door bar for each front door. Dash bar must be mounted horizontally above steering column as far forward as possible. Seat bar must be mounted behind your seat from doorpost to door doorpost horizontally. Must be mounted 3" up or down from center line of seat. No kickers off any bar. Door bars must be connected from dash bar to seat bar. Bars may be welded or bolted in. No bars smaller than 3" in diameter or larger than 6" in diameter, or less than 1/4" in thickness. Padding is recommended on bars by driver. Required Safety chain for dash bar to firewall, seat bar to floor not frame or body mounts. Halo bars are legal. Welding of door posts is legal but no added steel.
Misc. rules: Number of choice on each front door, roof sign recommended. Any decorating of cars will be done in good taste or you will not compete. Judges decisions are final. We reserve the right to re-inspect cars after event is over. AAPI reserves the right to charge a $20 late fee if participating car is not at show ½ hour before start of show.

Individual class rules.
Full Size Class:
Open Class: Any Year 2 & 4 door Sedans, Hardtops, or Station Wagons. Also 1980 and newer sedans and wagons will be allowed to put in 9 leaf springs per side in this class only. No Chrysler Imperials!
1980 and Newer: 1980 and newer sedans and wagons and exact like models from earlier years such as a 77 Impala is exactly identical to a 1980 etc... No other exceptions.
Bumpers: Any automotive bumper may be used. May be bolted on or welded. All factory brackets may be bolted or welded on. No adding steel besides factory brackets or bumper shocks. No seam welding bumpers themselves. Bumpers must have 2 chains or wires to hold them on. We do no not want bumpers on the track. This year to save drivers money we will allow in place of the front bumper only a piece of rectangular steel with dimensions of 6" tall 2" deep by 1/4" wall...60" wide maximum. No added gussets will be allowed and you MUST follow these dimensions. No other variations will be allowed!
Suspension: 21" height maximum to bottom of bumpers from ground. 16" Minimum height. You may obtain this by bolting or welding suspension or changing springs. Ties rods, upper and lower rear control arms may be reinforced but must remain operational. You may also use 2 chains or cables to hold in rear end in wagons or sedans. No bigger than 3/8" diameter chain, and no more than 1 loop from rear end to frame humps. Do not reinforce frame in gaining height or you will not run!
Body Bolts: Maximum 1/2" diameter bolts. Except core support than can be 1" in diameter. Body pucks may be removed. Do not extend bolts through bottom of frame, but may go through into body. You may use up to 4" diameter washers or plates and 1 nut to hold plates inside of car only.
Engines and Transmissions: Any engine in any make of vehicle allowed. In addition to factory motor mounts you may use 2 chains (1 per side) or 2 small plates to secure engine in bay. Do not use chains or plates to reinforce the frame structure. Vertical stacks must be mounted securely and pass inspection. Transmission cross members may be bolted or welded in, you may also use steel tubing in place of the factory cross member but do not use this to reinforce the frame! Transmission coolers are permitted, but must pass inspection.
Rear ends: Any OEM automotive or truck rear end of choice up to 8 bolts including free floating rear ends. No dual setups. Aftermarket and hybrid rear ends are also legal, as well as back braces for support.
1980 And Newer Competing At Open Class Derby ONLY: You may weld 1 plate per side on outside of hump only. This plate can be up to 3/8"x4"x18"long. Or you may convert to leaf springs using 9 automotive springs per side, with maximum of 3 clamps per side. You may bolt or weld in hangers or put inside frame and bolt.
Compact= 99” wheelbase and less.
Midsize= 99 ¼” -111” wheelbase - No full frame vehicles in this class.
Mini Vans: Mini Vans, Mini Trucks, and Mini Blazers. (i.e. S-10 and S-15) No V-8 Engines
Bumpers: Any automotive bumper may be used. May be bolted on or welded. All factory brackets may be bolted or welded on. Bumpers MUST match division (i.e. Compact on Compact, Midsize on Midsize, etc.) This year to save drivers money we will allow in place of the front bumper only a piece of rectangular steel with dimensions of 4" tall 2" deep by 1/8" wall...50" wide maximum. No added gussets will be allowed and you MUST follow these dimensions. No other variations will be allowed!
Suspension: 18" height maximum to bottom of bumpers from ground. You may obtain this by bolting or welding suspension or changing springs. Ties rods, upper and lower rear control arms may be reinforced but must remain operational. You may also use 2 chains or cables to hold in rear end in wagons or sedans. No bigger than 3/8" diameter chain, and no more than 1 loop from rear end to frame humps. Do not reinforce frame in gaining height or you will not run!
Body Bolts (Mini Trucks Only): Must have at least (4)- 1/2” bolts additional to the factory bolts holding the box to the frame.
Rear Windows: All regular cab trucks MUST have some kind of support behind driver’s head to prevent your head from going out the back window.
Engine and Transmission: 4 or 6 Cylinder only. Vertical engine stacks are permitted, but keep below 18” above hood. Engines may be secured with chain by bolting or welding to frame. Do not use chain to reinforce in any way the structure of the vehicle or you will not be allowed to run. Transmission cross members and mounts may be welded in. No V-8’s in the Mini Van class…
Bumpers: Bumper and all bumper brackets may be welded (One pass only). Two Chains or wires MUST go to or around the bumper and be bolted or welded to the frame. Only one wrap per chain may be used. Bumpers MUST match division (i.e. Full Size Trucks on Full Size Trucks, etc.). This year to save drivers money we will allow in place of the front bumper only a piece of rectangular steel with dimensions of 6" tall 2" deep by 1/4" wall...60" wide maximum. No added gussets will be allowed and you MUST follow these dimensions. No other variations will be allowed!
Suspension: 24" height maximum to bottom of bumper from ground. You may obtain this by bolting or welding suspension or changing springs. Ties rods, upper and lower rear control arms may be reinforced but must remain operational. You may also use 2 chains or cables to hold in rear end in wagons or sedans. No bigger than 3/8" diameter chain, and no more than 1 loop from rear end to frame humps. Do not reinforce frame in gaining height or you will not run!
Body Bolts (Full Size Trucks only): Must have at least 4 bolts additional to the factory bolts up to 3/4 inch in size and a minimum of a 4-inch washer holding the box to the frame. You may attach box to the cab of the truck.
Rear Windows: All regular cab trucks MUST have some kind of support behind driver’s head to prevent your head from going out the back window.
